I hope you will check in often to read about my ambitious journey into the alternate universes and creative teaching possibilities within virtual worlds.Įducation is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs only to the people who prepare for it today,” determined Malcolm X at the O.A.A.U.’s founding forum at the Audubon Ballroom. How does a virtual world look like to an administrator or student? What set-up work is necessary to stage for a successful learning experience? What skills does an administrator or student need to successfully implement and engage in a virtual learning component? Finally, I want to examine the difference between the student and administrator view of virtual environments. I look forward to an in-depth exploration into content availability and suitability for independent, guided, synchronous and asynchronous student-teacher interaction and collaboration. Immersed in these virtual environments I will investigate their suitability for ESL education with a closer look at areas such as experiential learning, fluency practice, virtual classroom meetings, grammar, and storytelling. Another component will focus on describing and comparing the virtual worlds of Jokaydia Grid and Second Life. An essential element will be describing and analyzing my experience as the avatar ‘Muse Terpsichore’ in virtual worlds during my online summer “Games and Simulations” course at Marlboro College for Professional and Graduate Studies in Brattleboro, VT. I am embarking on a journey of discovery with critical questions in my mind: How does an ESL facilitator put virtual environments to practical use? The purpose of my paper and presentation encompasses several areas which I will explore in future blogs. for the TESOL Conference, November 3rd and 4th, 2016 in Syracuse, New York. The win puts Wellington on six points, level with Perth Glory who lost 2-0 to Adelaide United later on Sunday. An accepted paper by Jasmin B. In the 89th minute Burns was through on goal with the chance to become the first Phoenix player to score a hat-trick, but his touch deserted him and a defender picked his pocket to scramble the ball into the goalkeeper's hands.Īlmost immediately, the Jets went down the other end and scored through a Joel Griffiths header, but Durante scored an injury-time goal to restore the three-goal margin. In particular, Andrew Durante produced a brilliant sliding challenge to deny Jeronimo Neumann who was closing in on the Wellington goal. With the game gone at 3-0 down, the Jets kept pushing forward in search of a breakthrough goal, but the Phoenix defence held firm. That, however, was until the Phoenix caught the jets on the break in the 65th minute and this time Burns turned provider to draw Birighitti and centre the ball to leave Michael McGlinchey with the simplest of finishes. Increasingly wet conditions made ball control more difficult in the second half, but the Jets handled the conditions better than their opponents and looked more likely to score. The home side struck again before half-time, however, as Burns was put through on goal, and although his first shot was stopped by goalkeeper Mark Birighitti, Burns' momentum slid him through so he could scramble the rebound over the line from close range. Wellington dominated the first half with more territory and more chances, although the Jets had more possession as the half wore on. The Phoenix made a great start to the game in Wellington on Sunday afternoon, with Nathan Burns producing a solid strike to hit the back of the net after being set up by striker Jeremy Brockie. Wellington Phoenix have scored a comfortable 4-1 home win over Newcastle Jets to move into the top four.
